The Delbridge Museum, home to the world’s largest private taxidermy collection of wild safari animals, is located in Sioux Falls, though not for much longer. After a year and a half of debate, the Sioux Falls City Council made a final decision on Tuesday night, voting to donate the majority of the collection to the University of Notre Dame. It wasn’t an easy choice, particularly for Councilman Kurt Soehl and others who recall its founding and the original donation to the city 40 years ago. The zoo has failed us. We gave them a million dollar collection forty years ago and today it needs $850 ,000 worth of upkeep. I know it’s not their future mission, but really this is a stain on the zoo that’s gonna last for a long time. In addition to Notre Dame, two other museums will also receive parts of the collection.
