Ted Greenberg began his museum work experience as a volunteer at the Newark Museum in Newark, New Jersey. He received his M.A degree in Museum Studies from John F. Kennedy University in 1980. Ted worked at the Judah L. Magnes Museum in Berkeley, California from 1977 until 1984 when he was offered the position of registrar for permanent collections at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. In August of 1999, Ted left the Fine Arts Museums to become the head registrar of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art until the end of 2006. He then embarked on an independent museum consultancy specializing in registration and collection management. He has consulted for museums, galleries and private collections. Since 1976, Ted has been very active in the professional registrar committees of the American Alliance of Museums and Western Museums Association. Ted has recently ended 12 years of service as a member of the Western Museums Association board. Ted has served in the capacity of officer, chair of the nominating committees, program committees and presented many panels at regional, national and international meetings. These panels range from earthquake safety for collections, valuation of collections, the role of the registrar, long term loans and abandoned property, collection management system upgrades and the ins and outs of being a museum consultant. For many years, Ted was adjunct faculty teaching courses on documentation of collections mentoring students and still participates on panels for final thesis presentations at John F. Kennedy University.
